Utopia on Hold permits its members to create plots as they see it, including using this forum as a platform to recruit characters, players, and NPCs as they need to. This is a huge responsibility, as it gives members some level of direct control over the population and demographics involved in the RPG. If there's a huge demand for wand-makers in their forties, naturally, more people will begin to play them.
And as such, there are some general guidelines to follow. It's great to see members wish to become involved, but they also have to remember to be responsible with the liberties they receive. The staff would love to see the following occur:
- Player responsibility. Don't create or join plots that you are unable to see through to completion. Make sure that you can make room for it if you decide to participate. No one likes a quitter, and if you do it too much, the staff may have to intervene. Plot hopping solely for the purpose of creating and participating in as many plots as possible is prohibited. Make sure you, as the player, are responsible for your characters, actions, and activity.
- Plot responsibility. Just keep the plot responsible within the parameters of the realm. Please do not be a thread for hunting down and slaying Class 1s, as that's usually not reasonable. Any players who choose to start a thread that can be considered irresponsible better have a damn good reason. All threads within Utopia on Hold fit within UH continuity, so if there's something that may drastically tip the balance of the RPG, the staff may get involved.
- Sensibility. Keep the idea of the plot rational. This point should be obvious enough. It's highly unlikely that Hogwarts students, for example, would suddenly take a vacation en masse to Palaisbleux or Valinsbourgh. This represents a plot that stretches beyond the realm of feasibility.
- Taste. Keep plots tasteful. As much as tabloid fodder sells, I would rather not see the same carbon copy plot ideas. Try to look at past plots to see if it has been done before, and if it has, try to add something new. Also, if another plot is similar and open, please try to join that one instead of creating your own just to grab the spotlight.
Plots are often a great way to create, flesh out, and play background characters, or they are good way to bring out limited characters that may otherwise see very little play. They are, however, generally
not the place to see
plot characters. The reason being is that plot characters have their own plotters forum, and they will be executed on a more board-wide scale. Please do not confuse member-driven plots with the board-wide plot/plot character.
